What to expect from your first session?
Therapy is a great way to learn more about yourself and why you behave in the way you do!
It is a brave and courageous thing to meet someone you already know in lots of ways but may not always like or respect …. That is you.
When you come to your first session the therapist will often ask a lot of questions in an attempt to understand better what is happening in your life and have a sense of what it is you want to understand more fully or to be different, but future sessions do not follow this pattern.
The sessions last from fifty minutes to an hour depending upon which therapist you see and are set in an environment which will be private, confidential and supportive of you. We hope to see you on a weekly basis as this we find this the most effective time period.
It requires an openness and honesty which can at times be both challenging but also liberating, we will listen attentively to what you say and respond when it is appropriate.
Can I ask questions?
Please do it is really important for you to take a level of control in your therapy to ensure the best outcome, it is not something that is ‘done to us’ but rather a process which requires commitment from both you and us.
We are happy to explain how we work and why we are asking the questions in this first session.
Writing down thoughts and feelings are a useful way of preparing for your first session to have some sense for why you aren’t feeling as you hoped to or living the life you wanted to, bring this along if you can.
Contact one of us if you feel this is something you would like to explore further.
